Poole PK students showcase insect research in creative performance
Prekindergarten students at Poole Elementary School recently celebrated the end of their insect study with a lively performance that brought learning to life for families and staff.
Each student chose an insect to research, working with family support at home to discover facts about creatures ranging from butterflies and bees to ladybugs and ants. The project built early research and communication skills while introducing students to the natural world.
Families played a key role by guiding research and sparking conversations, while teachers supported students in turning their knowledge into creative expression through songs, movements, costumes and presentations. The result was a student-created “insect community” that filled the stage with buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies and busy ants.
The performance gave students opportunities to practice public speaking, build confidence and collaborate as a group — core principles of effective early learning that emphasize student voice and hands-on discovery. It also reinforced the power of school-family partnerships in supporting young learners.
Such experiences align with DoWEA’s focus on fostering curiosity, collaboration and a sense of community among military-connected students, helping prepare them as engaged citizens who value knowledge and shared achievement.
The event highlighted how Prekindergarten programs at DoWEA schools create meaningful, memorable learning by combining research, creativity and family involvement — showing that even the youngest students can achieve big things through dedication and teamwork.
